The importance of being earneast by oscar wilde

This victorian era story is a British comedy. The setting is London and the countryside. Urban London is full of fashion and full of business.

In the beginning, we are introduced to Algernon and Ernest. Ernest real name is Jack. Jack is bored with his life and creates a smaller brother called Ernest. This jack is in love with Gwendolen.

Thus there is an element of mistaken identities. I fell there are a lot of adjectives that are used. Miss Prism as a" female of repellent aspect, remotely connected with educations"  This might sound good but some readers might not prefer that langue.

Characters in this novel are lack insight. Lady Bracknell is preoccupied with her own parties. she is not sympathy towards invalids. Her manner is cold.

The writing has touches of humour. Oscar humours the upper class of the victorian era. Only Oscar can get away with jabs that he makes at the society . In this novel Algernon and Ernest argue over a lady that both love. Jack says how can you eat muffins when we are in this horrible trouble.

To this Algernon replies that he can't eat muffins in an agitated manner and that the butter can probably get on my cuffs. Jack replies back it is perfectly heartless you eating muffins under these circumstances.

Oscar includes both satire and irony. The irony is the favorture tool of Oscar. He also includes fantasy and realism in his works. He describes the situation and people with  literary usage. The story is based on relationships.

l loved the style of humour writing.

Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

This book is not about just a treasure hunt. It goes deeper than that. On the surface, Jim Hawkins is seen helping his parents run an inn. Billy is a person who comes to stay at the inn. Bill dies leaving behind a treasure map.

Another character long john sliver enters the book. He is a former shipmate of  Billy and pirates. It is believed that sliver will kill all the non-pirates once the treasure is found.

As the story unfolds Jim also grows. He is faced with death and life situations. Stevenson introduces one-legged pirates. Also, Jim tone is one of adolescent's. Emotions are also given when Jim says after his father's death "'our natural distress, the visits of the neighbours, the arranging of the funeral, and all the work of the inn to be carried on...''

Stevenson gives no importance to other peoples tones in the book. Symbols like the black spot are given Also where the treasure is there an X is given on the map.

I liked the Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum line in the book. Writing is simple and easy to understand.

The Loop by Nicholas Evans

You might remember Nicholas from The Horse Whisperer. This story is about wolves. The story is about the ranching community.

At the start, a wolf has almost attacked a child. Dan from office of wildlife service recovery is called in. The ranching community is up in arms. They want to kill the wolves. But they are an endangered species.

A biologist is called in, Helen Ross. She does not want to kill the wolves. All this happens in the town of Hope.  Buck Calder is one person who wants to kill then wolves. Luke his son loves the wolves and tries to save them . But Luke stammers a lot.

The first loop refers to the food chain of nature. The second talks about the wolf hunter as poison . In the book, Nature is described very well. I Ioved this part.

The writing is simple. This story is about a man's conflict with nature.

Chronicle of a death fore told by Garcia Marquez

This story is about Santiago Nasar. He lives in an unnamed American town.

Nasar is killed and it seems that everyone in town knew about it . Then why is that no one prevented him from being killed? The door where Nasar lived, by which Nasar could escape was kept closed. So was there a conspiracy ?

The gruesome killing is shown. The Vicario brothers had killed Nasar. It seemed he had dishonoured their sister. So is this an honour killing? This being the case the morals of such a society can be seen.

While talking about the murder the author distance himself from the daily lives of the characters. Also, the value of purity is told when Garcia talks about the wedding night of  Angelo Vicario.

The author tries to bring in the bible. He says and I quote “My sister felt the angel pass by. She thought once more about the good fortune…”. More things relating to the bible are mentioned.

I had mixed feelings about the book.
